Tucson Man Given 30 Years In Drug Trafficking Case

A federal judge sentenced a Tucson man to 30 years in prison for his role in helping move more than 10 tons of marijuana.

Miguel Eduardo Martinez, 37, also known as "Indio," was convicted in February to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Martinez was a member of a drug smuggling organization out of Tucson that moved marijuana from 2002 to 2008 when Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested Martinez and others. The DEA says that Martinez distributed about 22,000 pounds of marijuana during that period.

Agents also found several weapons at Martinez' home, including an AK-47, AR-15 and hand grenade.

Martinez has a criminal history that includes being linked to attempted murder of a relative after the relative participated in a home invasion of one of Martinez' drug customers, the news release says. They shot the relative once in the eye and once in the arm.

Ten other members of the same Tucson-based drug smuggling organization have pled guilty.
