SHAQ TARGETED BY GAY GROUP OVER COMMENT: ESPN pulls commercial after protests over NBA star's rejection of a 'fist kiss.'

*ESPN decided to pull a new promo spot starring Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O'Neal after a prominent gay rights organization slammed it for being homophobic.
The spot featured Shaq rejecting a "fist kiss" -- a spin on the term "fist pound" -- from sports commentator Mike Breen. After the offer, Shaq responds, "No fist kiss, no fist love, no fist hump. None of that. You're a weirdo man. Stay over there ... fist kiss ... disgusting."

After GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) lodged protests agaisnt the ad, ESPN apologized and promptly pulled the spot.

In the wake of the controversy, several Web articles have defended Shaq by recalling the time he stated he would "protect a gay teammate" and the time he chased down a pack of gay bashers in Miami.
