Newark man arrested in fatal shooting of 15-year-old boy

NEWARK -- A city man was taken into custody Friday for his connection with the fatal shooting in May of a 15-year-old, police said.
Darnell Roundtree, 28, of Newark, is facing charges for the death of Ubaidullah Shabazz, who was found with gun shot wounds to the torso at 19 Stratford Place, Detective Todd McClendon said. Shabazz was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators from Newark Police, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, and U.S. Marshals Service discovered Roundtree in Allentown, Pa., where he was arrested without incident, McClendon said. He is currently waiting for extradition back to Newark.

Roundtree was charged with murder, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, McClendon said.
