(MOBILE, Ala. ) December 14 - A man accused of terrorizing women at a local Walmart has been arrested. Mobile Police say Frank Hicks is behind bars for carjacking at least two women at the mid-town Walmartt near I-65 last week. NBC 15 news uncovered the arrest this morning and has more on the charges Hicks faces.
The attacks happened within 24 hours of each other. One woman carjacked last Saturday; the other woman carjacked Sunday night. Police arrested the 26 year old around 4 this morning in the 1500 block of Albatross Drive in Mobile. Hicks is charged with two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery. Police say Hicks is responsible for holding up two women at gunpoint and forcing them into their cars at this Walmart parking lot.
Authorities say he then drove off with them---- dropping them off blocks away and then stealing their vehicle and belongings. Luckily, both women were able to escape unharmed when the car stopped at nearby intersections. Police say the suspect was hanging around the mid-town Walmart near 1-65 and Dauphin Street...targeting women.
NBC 15 talked to several customers shopping at Wal-Mart today who said they have been scared to go there since hearing about the attacks. One customer says, "you cant even walk to your own car....you cant even go to the neighborhood store and do anything without somebody kidnapping you." Another customer says, "it's good he got locked up and everything....and I hope they keep him in there for a good long time because if this happens again maybe next time that person wont live."
The local manager at Wal-Mart would not comment on the arrest. He told us to call the corporate office which was closed today. Hicks remains in Mobile County Metro Jail. Police are not saying what led them to Hicks.
