An 11-year veteran of the Broward Sheriff's Office was arrested Tuesday on charges that he stole $1,232 in cash from the crime scene of a drug investigation.
Deputy Albury Burrows, 40, is charged with grand theft, a third-degree felony, records show.
Burrows is accused of taking money first found by other deputies in the pockets of a drug suspect during an investigation of marijuana plants found growing in a Broward County apartment.
At the request of Burrows, the officer in charge of the investigation, deputies placed $2,464 in cash from the suspect inside the apartment while the investigators waited for a search warrant to allow them to inspect the apartment, according to an arrest report.
Burrows was then left alone at the apartment until supervisors arrived, when they found only $1,232 in cash, the report says.
