“My mistake was watching everyone else’s careers and not watching mine.”
Hip Hop’s posterboy for hard times, Damon Dash is finally breaking his silence in regards to his unfortunate fall from grace. The former chief executive at Roc-a-Fella has fallen victim to everything from property foreclosure to owing $2 million in back taxes to most recently being dumped by his wife of four years and business partner, Rachel Roy.
So where did Dash go wrong? Recently he told Billboard that his financial woes are a product of helping others like Roy, Jigga and Jim Jones and not spending enough time on his own projects. He says he was preoccupied with making sure everyone else was good that he neglected to manage his own financial heath.
“My mistake was watching everyone else’s careers and not watching mine.” He tells Billboard.com, “After being able to settle my wife’s company, I was able to start doing other things. My first approach was the music business and getting with Jim Jones… I spent the last six months doing research, trying to figure out how to use all my resources to blow this out.”
