College Park double-homicide leads to 3 teens arrested

Police late Wendesday night identified the fourth suspect in Saturday’s College Park double-homicide. Christopher Lorenzo Varner, 23, is wanted for his part in the execution-style shooting deaths of Lanaetria Renee Butler and Karida Winkler.

Earlier in the day, police arrested and charged 18-year-old Boubacar Traore, and 19-year-olds Anthony Wilder and Carnell Owens with murder for trying to rob Winkler and Butler.

A third roommate found the two women Sunday morning shot to death inside their apartment at 3100 Godby Road, police said.

Each woman had been shot once in the head, police said.

Authorities say Varner is known by his nickname, “Calico.” He was still at large at mid-morning Thursday.

Wilder was arrested Tuesday night in Union City on different charges, College Park police detective Sgt. Eddie Atkins said.

“We had a tip that he had information,” Atkins said of Wilder. “Detectives interviewed him and he confessed.”

During the interview, Wilder gave up two of his accomplices, Atkins said.

Owens was picked up at 2727 Godby Road, an apartment complex just blocks away from Butler’s and Winkler’s apartment, police said.

Traore was arrested in an apartment in the same complex where the women lived, but police declined to say whether he knew them.

The three arrested suspects were transferred overnight from the College Park Jail to the Fulton County Jail, police said. They are being held without bond.
