MEMPHIS, TN – Police are looking for a man who violently attacked a Memphis police officer and threatened his life.
According to Memphis Police Detective Monique Martin, 31 year-old Terrance Braden is wanted for assault against a police officer, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, manufacture and deliver, resisting official detention and driving with a suspended license.
It happened on South Parkway at McMillan around 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Detective Martin says the officer stopped a white Cadillac for driving 59 miles per hour in a 30 MPH construction zone. Martin says there were three people in the car, Braden, 25 year-old Carla Welcome and her 3 year-old son. When the officer asked Braden to step out of the vehicle, he fought the officer to the ground in an attempt to avoid being handcuffed, said investigators.
Detectives say during the struggle, Welcome grabbed a gun and drugs from the car and ran away. Detective Martin says Welcome came back to the scene a short time later and assaulted the officer while her three year-old son kicked him several times.
Welcome was arrested at the scene and has been charged with resisting official detention, possession of meth with intent to manufacture and sell, possession of a firearm, tampering with/fabricating evidence, assault and bodily harm and evading arrest. Welcome is being held on a $150,000 bond.
Martin say the officer was not seriously hurt, but had several cuts and scrapes. His uniform was torn and his police radio was taken from his belt.
