The victim reported the incident to DeKalb County police at about 4 a.m. on April 25. A Georgia Tech police report shows the DeKalb County police notified Tech police of the incident at 4:14 a.m.
The rape allegedly occurred at the Undergraduate Living Center, an on-campus dormitory, the report said. No weapons were used.
Tarrant, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound redshirt freshman from Carrollton, emerged from spring practice as a potential starter at cornerback. He was competing with Mario Butler for the spot opposite Jahi Word-Daniels.
Tarrant also practiced at nickel back, punt returner and kick returner and on the field-goal block team. Tarrant made The Journal-Constitution's Top 50 in Georgia for the 2007 signing class and was first-team all-state in Class AAA.
"These charges filed against Jerrard are something that we take very seriously," Johnson said in a statement. "He has been suspended from the team indefinitely, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings."
Tarrant's facebook.com page was updated on Monday to say "Jerrard Tarrant is truly MISUNDERSTOOD, when will they see the real me????"
