Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a shooting in Garyville on Thursday that left one man dead and another hospitalized.
St. John the Baptist sheriff's deputies on Thursday arrested Jermaine Joseph Weber, 20, of Garyville, charging him with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder, in connection with the afternoon shooting, officials said today. Weber is being held in the St. John parish jail. Authorities have not released names of the injured, but said an autopsy was being conducted this morning.
Investigators found the men in a car shortly before 2 p.m. near River Road at the end of Stout Street. The driver was shot in the head and the front-seat passenger was shot in the shoulder. The men were rushed to the hospital while deputies questioned a third passenger, who sat in the rear and was unharmed.

Maj. Mike Tregre, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said investigators received tips from witnesses that a gunman went inside a home in the 100 block of Sherman Walker Street.
About an hour later, members of the Sheriff's Office's Special Operations Response Team blocked off a section of Sherman Walker Street and forced their way into a blue house with pink trim. The home was vacant, and response team came out alone, but eight cones marked where bullet casings had fallen to the street.
Tregre said late Thursday that authorities are searching for one or more suspects who could be involved in the shooting.
Few details of the shooting were released Thursday, though deputies said callers reported gunshots in the area at 1:53 p.m. and spoke of a parked 1998 Toyota Camry, in which the injured men were found.
The driver was taken to St. James Parish Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head and later died. The passenger was taken to River Parishes Hospital.
