KSDK -- A Florissant teen was arrested Tuesday and charged with the murder of a 19-year-old over a gold chain, St. Louis Metropolitan Police said.
According to Erica Van Ross, a police spokesperson, investigators have charged 18-year-old Marquise Atkins with one count of first-degree murder, one count of robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
Police said the victim, Terrance Mims, was walking home in the 5100 block of Riverview on Sunday around 8:25 p.m. when he was approached an unknown number of suspects, who demanded he give them his gold chain.
One of the suspects punched Mims in the mouth and Atkins allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at the victim as he ran away from the scene, Van Ross said. Mims was hit once in the head and pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police have not released any additional information regarding the other suspects, Van Ross said.
