A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Monday afternoon during an apparent gang-related attack on a funeral procession on Chicago's Southwest Side, an incident that briefly led authorities to lock down the hospital where the victim was taken for fear of more gang violence.
The victim, Issac Sauceda, 19, was shot about 1:40 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Archer Avenue, in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He was driving a van in a funeral procession that was westbound on Archer when shots were fired from another vehicle, Police Officer John Mirabelli said. Sauceda was struck and lost control of the van, which crashed less than a block away.
Sauceda of the 4700 block of South Hoyne Avenue was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m., a medical examiner's office spokesman said.
