Police have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 56-year-old Sandra Stewart during a gun battle in Beltzhoover last month.
Dale Shelton, 18, has been charged with homicide, according to his attorney, James Sheets.
Mr. Shelton was arrested by members of the Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force about 6:30 a.m. yesterday at a residence in the 1900 block of Maple Street in Homestead.
When officers got to the home, they also saw a 16-year-old girl inside who had been reported missing. After she opened the door, officers approached Mr. Shelton, who was in a rear bedroom, according to the U.S. marshals. At first, he gave task force members a fake name. As they attempted to handcuff him, there was a struggle, the marshals said.
Mr. Shelton was subdued and taken into custody.
There were no injuries, and the girl also was taken to police headquarters.
On Sept. 24, Ms. Stewart was shot in the head as she sat on her sister's porch on Curtin Avenue. She later died from her injuries. Two other people were injured.
Police matched a .40-caliber bullet with a gun Mr. Shelton allegedly used in the shooting.
