The Barack Obama fundraising frenzy continues. Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Stevie Wonder, John Legend and a host of other artists have announced that they have contributing records to an fundraising album for Presidential candidate. The album entitled, “We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement,” which will retail for $24.99 (digital) and $30 (CD) CD will benefit Obama’s presidential campaign through Election Day on Nov. 4 .
“We had conversations quite some time ago about how to harness what was happening really organically and naturally with so many artists,” said the CD’s producer, Hidden Beach CEO Steve McKeever. “The whole concept (was) how do we translate that to inspire and invigorate and also give people a keepsake that they can own while at the same time providing some important capital needed for this campaign.”
But get this…given the nature of the stringent campaign contribution guidelines, the project had to meet crazy vetting processs to make sure it met federal campaign standards. McKeever told the Associated Press that the Obama campaign purchased the rights to the CD for an undisclosed amount and that the artists on the CD “are all being compensated as fair market value for their services.”
