EPD: Woman killed lover, hid body in woods

Update: An Evansville woman is arrested on murder charges after police say she killed her boyfriend and dumped his body in a wooded area.
Detectives say Tangelia Brown stabbed 24-year-old Antonio Swanson to death on Sunday in the apartment the two shared on Jackson Avenue.

Then, police say Brown and her 13-year-old daughter, placed Swanson's body on the first floor of the apartment and left him there for several hours.

Police say Brown and another woman then wrapped Swanson's body in plastic bags, loaded the body into a shopping cart, pushed it to a nearby wooded area and dumped it.

Detectives say Brown admitted to stabbing Swanson, saying she snapped because of his relationship with another woman.

Tangelia Brown is charged with murder.

The coroner says Swanson died of a single knife wound to the chest that punctured his lung.

The coroner believes he died within three minutes.

Update: An arrest was made Wednesday night in the murder case of a man whose body was found Wednesday morning on Evansville's southeast side.

Then, police say, she and her 13-year-old daughter wrapped Swanson's body in plastic and carried it to the spot on Lombard where it was found.

Update: EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Police say they now know the identity of the person found dead by a jogger on Evansville's southeast side.

The body was discovered in a wooded area by a jogger. Police say it was wrapped in plastic and covered in debris.

Police were on the scene, investigating the death for most of the day Wednesday. Police say they are not releasing the name of the male victim until family is notified.

The area where the body was found is residential with apartments right next to the woods.

When the crime scene tape went up, a crowd of neighbors came out to see what was going on.

"We received a call, guy was jogging by and saw a body in the woods right over here at the 1200 block of Monroe," Corporal Steve Green, EPD, said.

Since 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning police have been on the scene. Green said the body was hidden.

"Supposedly the body was back there wrapped in plastic and covered with debris," Green said.

Soon, a mobile command center was setup nearby. Detectives talked with neighbors while investigators collected evidence from the scene.

All this was going on while a crowd of concerned residents looked on in shock.

"It's a tragedy, it really is," Shay Waller, resident, said.

Waller lives in the apartments next to the wooded area. She was on her way to Wal-Mart when she noticed something going on.

"Right out my front door," Waller said. "I'm looking at crime scene tape, you know, police everywhere, detectives, coroners, you know. You know, when you see that, it's a bad feeling and it does not make you feel safe at all."

As the mother of three, it worries Waller.

"You don't want to bring your kids home to this, you know, and they're gonna say, 'Mom, what's going on? Come on Mom, what happened?'"

Although Waller may not know the victim, she says she sympathizes with his family, and hopes the police will bring whoever is responsible to justice.

"I just hope they find out who did it so he can be put to rest and his family can move on with the best way they can with their lives," Waller said.

Police say some recent leads have led them to a person of interest in the case.

The autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
