St. Louis thug fires at officers, hits himself in the head

A man whom police alleged shot himself accidentally after a struggle with offficers Thursday night at Interstate 70 and Lucas & Hunt Road died about 9:40 p.m. Friday at an area hospital.
St. Louis County police identified the man this morning as Tyrone Hart Jr., 23, of the 10400 block of Balmoral Drive in Glasgow Village.

Police ran a license plate check about 11:40 p.m. Thursday of a car at a Shell station on Lucas & Hunt. It was reported stolen from Ferguson, police said. The owner of the vehicle had failed to report that the car had been recovered and had given permission to the driver to drive it, police said.

When police approached, Hart, a passenger, fled, was caught, struggled, and shot himself in the head as he attempted to fire over his shoulder at officers while he was on the ground, police alleged. Police were attempting to handcuff him when he pulled the weapon, officers said.

St. Louis police were looking for Hart in connection with an incident of domestic violence earlier Thursday, police said
