A 15-year-old boy was killed and a man critically wounded in a shooting Monday night on Chicago's Northwest Side, police said. The teen is the 26th Chicago Public Schools student killed since the beginning of last school year.
The shooting occurred about 9:45 p.m. on the 2700 block of North Monticello Avenue in the city's Logan Square neighborhood, according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman. The victims quarreled with a man, described as between 18 and 20 years old, who opened fire, striking the boy in the back and the other man in the chest and leg.
The teen, Ignacio Montano, of the 4300 block of West Fullerton Avenue, was pronounced dead just after 11 p.m. at the Stein Institute, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The other victim, whose age was not immediately known, was taken in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Montano attended Kelvyn Park High School, 4343 W. Wrightwood Ave., according to Mike Vaughn, a CPS spokesman.
