Inmate escapes from Bertie-Martin jail in North Carolina

Police were searching for an inmate from the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Danyashi Terrell Wood escaped custody, one day after he was sentenced to serve 93 months on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and being a habitual felon, according to a news release from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said he is considered armed and dangerous.

He was possibly a passenger in an older model purple or dark blue Ford Explorer with brown or gray trim, the news release said. The driver was unknown, but there was a female passenger seen in the vehicle.

Police said he has relatives in the Murfreesboro area, but could be headed back to Richmond. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330.
