PHILADELPHIA -- Police said the same stolen gun was used in Monday’s shootout with police and the shooting death of a woman earlier that morning.
Police said the trail of crimes began with the death of Monica Wilson, 41, of Southwest Philadelphia.
She was shot and killed Monday morning.
The woman's boyfriend, Richard Wilson, 59, quickly became a suspect, authorities said.
Acting on a tip, police went to the neighborhood that afternoon and Richard Wilson opened fire on them, authorities said.
Officers returned fire.
No officers were injured, but Richard Wilson was shot in the arm and hip.
Police said the same stolen gun was used in both crimes.
Richard Wilson has been charged with four counts of attempted murder on police officers.
No charges have been filed yet in connection with the death of Monica Wilson.
Richard Wilson served nearly 30 years in prison for murder and was released in the last five years, authorities said.
