Murder rate in Chicago up 18 percent over 7-month period of 2007

Sixty-two slayings in July, police source says Violent crime continued to rise in Chicago after a deadly July in which 62 people were killed, according to unofficial numbers provided by a police source.

For the first seven months of 2008, murders rose by 18 percent over the same period in 2007 and by 9 percent for the same period in 2006. According to internal police data, 291 people were killed from January through July, up from 246 in 2007 and 266 in 2006.

Mother witnessed son's killing in Belle Glade, four others wounded in overnight gun play

Man shoots neighbor, then self, Gwinnett cops say

One Gwinnett man was in surgery Thursday night and another was dead after a violent incident involving next-door neighbors.

The sequence of events started around 1 p.m. near Loganville when Charles Edward Quinn, who lives on Vintage Oaks Drive in unincorporated Gwinnett County, shot his next-door neighbor while the neighbor was mowing his own grass, said Cpl. Charges Filed in Town and Country Store Robbery

KSDK -- An employee of a Town and Country store conspired with an armed robbery suspect to hold up a Linens & Things more than a week ago, police said.



According to Captain Gary Hoelzer, a spokesman for the Town and Country Police Department, the robbery took place on July 28 around 9 p.m., in the 13000 block of Manchester Road. The suspect approached an employee outside the business around closing time and demanded money. He stole an… Continue

DETROIT MAYOR HAULED OFF TO JAIL: Judge says Kilpatrick violated terms of bond.

OxyContin bust nets 56 Miami-Dade government employees

Dallas man arrested in mother's slaying

Dallas police were busy Wednesday investigating three deaths, including that of a woman who appeared to have been beaten to death and whose son was arrested in her slaying.

Robbery plot suspected in fatal shooting

Antioch -- A scheme by two friends to rob a marijuana dealer in Antioch ended with the shooting death of one of the men and the arrest of the other on murder charges, police said. The marijuana dealer who fired the shots, meanwhile, was not arrested and was described by police as a victim.
