Suspect to stand trial following mental exam

Artives Freeman, whose first-degree murder trial was abruptly halted in May after he entered the courtroom dressed in a suit and tie and covered in his own feces, has been declared competent to stand trial.

Freeman was sent to a mental hospital for an examination. A psychologist concluded he is not mentally ill but had been feigning symptoms of mental illness.

Twin of man awaiting trial shot dead

Doval Smith, 21-year-old twin, reputed gang member, ''person of interest'' in the 2006 shooting death of a teenage girl, was shot dead Monday morning in Opa-locka.

Officers found Smith dead at Northwest 143rd Street and 22nd Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Monday. Another man, also shot, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Miami-Dade police said.

Change of venue for courtroom slaying trial

Former WSB-TV anchor avoids cocaine trial

Former Atlanta television personality Warren Savage has avoided trial for cocaine possession by completing a rigorous 18-month drug treatment program in Forsyth County.

Three teens will face trial in Mt. Clemens beating

Three teenagers will face trial in the brutal beating of a motorist earlier this month on North River Road in Mt. Clemens, a Macomb County district judge ruled this afternoon.
