Newark struggles to curb teen slayings

NEWARK, N.J. — Bukhari Washington had resisted the lure of gangs and drugs that derailed the lives of so many in his tough Newark neighborhood.

Jury convicts teen of killing another teen last year

A Rochester teenager was convicted today of slaying another teen last year.

State Supreme Court jurors acquitted De’Shequan L. Nathan, 17, of second-degree murder but convicted him of first-degree manslaughter in the shooting of Christopher Jones, 16, on Nov. 17, 2007.

Social workers, parents charged in starvation death of teen

Two Philadelphia social workers were among nine charged yesterday in the death of a Danieal Kelly, a 14-year-old girl who starved to death in 2006, her body eaten by bed sores to the bone.

Baytown teen charged with capital murder in son's death

Authorities on Thursday took the rare step of filing a capital murder charge against a 14-year-old girl, whose newborn son died after being submerged in a Baytown school toilet and having toilet paper stuffed down his throat.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office has not decided whether the girl should be certified to stand trial as an adult. If so, she could receive a life sentence without the possibility of release if convicted.

Bangas kill teen in Chicago funeral procession

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Monday afternoon during an apparent gang-related attack on a funeral procession on Chicago's Southwest Side, an incident that briefly led authorities to lock down the hospital where the victim was taken for fear of more gang violence.

Brooklyn teen killed in mob beatdown

The family and friends of a 19-year-old Brooklyn student who was beaten to death in East Flatbush by a group of ten men are calling for justice.

Baltimore teen beats mom to death

A Baltimore County grand jury has indicted a 16-year-old in the death of his mother and the beating of his father, according to court records.



Lewin Carlton Powell III of Towson was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, according to documents filed in Baltimore County Circuit Court.
