Sixty-two slayings in July, police source says
Violent crime continued to rise in Chicago after a deadly July in which 62 people were killed, according to unofficial numbers provided by a police source.
For the first seven months of 2008, murders rose by 18 percent over the same period in 2007 and by 9 percent for the same period in 2006. According to internal police data, 291 people were killed from January through July, up from 246 in 2007 and 266 in 2006.
Desroy Lowe, 21, died after he was shot several times.
Police say two men fired eight to 10 shots at Timothy Davis, 20.

Deputies Arrest Two for Carjacking in Southeast Shelby County
Shelby County Sheriff’s detectives charged two teenagers early this morning for carjacking and robbing another teenager last night in southeast Shelby County. The victim and one of the suspects were both shot.
Dallas police were busy Wednesday investigating three deaths, including that of a woman who appeared to have been beaten to death and whose son was arrested in her slaying.

In that case, Keith Asbry Rose, 38, called police at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and said his mother was on the floor of his kitchen apartment in the 4700 block of Bryan Street in northeast Dallas, but she wasn't moving or breathing.
Antioch -- A scheme by two friends to rob a marijuana dealer in Antioch ended with the shooting death of one of the men and the arrest of the other on murder charges, police said. The marijuana dealer who fired the shots, meanwhile, was not arrested and was described by police as a victim.
