We gather in a circle, everyone is equal, no one is higher, no one is above another and no one is better than the other. Powwow means gathering, or celebration. Where do I start and where do I end. Medical examiner: Norfolk girl died of food, water deprivation

Tamera Wooden, the 4-year-old girl found dead in her mother's apartment over the weekend, died of deprivation of food and water - an unusual scenario for a child her age, even among cases of child fatalities that lead to criminal charges, officials said.

Hartford: 11 shot in 3 attacks, including 7 year old boy and 17 month old girl

A 7-year-old boy who was shot in the head after a city parade on Saturday remained in critical condition Sunday night. Police said the shooting may have been gang-related.

Tyreke Marquis of Hartford was one of seven people injured in the shooting — one fatally. Ezekiel Roberts, 21, of Hartford, died in the shooting. Roberts is a distant relative of Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts.

Teen girl shot in head during drive-by

A bullet grazed the head of a 16-year-old girl who was an innocent bystander during a drive-by shooting late Friday, police said.

The shooting occurred at 1126 Hoover Road in the Hoover Road Apartments complex shortly before midnight.

The girl was transported to Duke University Medical Center, and officers believed her injuries were non-life-threatening.

13-year-old girl found dead in Fort Lauderdale

A 13-year-old girl, reported missing by her family three weeks ago, was found dead near a garbage bin in Fort Lauderdale, police said Wednesday.

Police are investigating the death of Neica Marie Gibbs,of Fort Lauderdale, as a homicide.

A young girl was stabbed to death Monday in an alley outside her father's South Side home, according to authorities.

2 sentenced in gang rape, prostitution of girl

Prison cells await two more people who have been sentenced for their roles in the 2005 gang rape and prostitution of a 15-year-old El Mirage girl.

Ryan Lia Rasmussen, 29, also known as "Hawaiian Ryan," and Mark Anthony Grayned, 22, both of Phoenix, will join four other people who have been imprisoned in the case.

Gunfire from a car killed a 15-year-old girl and paralyzed another teenager at a party outside a Mt. Washington home early Sunday, police said.
