Houston dad gets life sentence for baby's cocaine death

A Houston man who soothed his teething son with cocaine-tainted fingers was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for the infant's death.

Dennis Ray Driver, 26, was convicted of felony murder for the overdose death of his 8-month-old son, Dennis Jr.

"He was a frequent possessor of cocaine," said prosecutor Murray Newman. The jury also fined Driver $10,000.

Fredricks Smith to spend life in jail for drive-by death of Darryl Lance Weaver Jr.

GRAND RAPIDS -- Usually when a person convicted of murder stands for sentencing, he or she manages to at least mumble out some sort of apology to the victim's family.

Fredricks Smith had nothing to say before he was sent to prison for life in the fatal drive-by shooting of 17-year-old Darryl Lance Weaver Jr. in March 2007.

Baltimore teen beats mom to death

A Baltimore County grand jury has indicted a 16-year-old in the death of his mother and the beating of his father, according to court records.

Lewin Carlton Powell III of Towson was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, according to documents filed in Baltimore County Circuit Court.

13-year-old girl charged in stabbing death

Porsha Avery tried to imagine a 13-year-old girl, someone just like herself, charged with murder.
